UPHA Letter to Publications

The United Professional Horsemen's Association (UPHA), in coordination with other associated organizations (AHHS, AMHA, ARHPA and ASHA), request the help of the publications serving our sport to promote a positive public image of our trotting horse breeds. Specifically, we are soliciting your help in spotting action devices (e.g. chains, stretchers, leather straps, rollers) or other unnatural appearing training devices (e.g. dumb jockeys) in pictures or videos so your customer may have an opportunity to revise the materials. We understand this effort may require some training and the UPHA is committed to providing any necessary training materials so each publication can be consistent and effective in their analysis. Our recent successful effort of excluding trotting breeds from pending USDA regulations made it clear that anything reflecting negatively on our public image could have serious repercussions from animal rights activist groups.

We appreciate your attention and cooperation in this matter, as we all have a vested interest in our trotting horse breeds and our sport to have a long and prosperous future.
